The opening of the 2023 Opera Season of the Fondazione Arena di Verona is entrusted to W.A. Mozart and his most brilliant and revolutionary comedy, “Le Nozze di Figaro”. The title is included in the initiatives of the ‘Mozart in Verona’ season, which in its four performances at the Teatro Filarmonico also embraces the composer’s exact birthday.
The first title of the collaboration between the Salzburg genius and Lorenzo Da Ponte, this opera deals with an extremely modern and daring subject for its time: the third state defies the nobility and cunningly claims its freedom in the name of love. For a daring plot, an equally innovative musical form was needed: the 30-year-old composer treasured the great Italian buffa tradition to bend it to an unprecedented and profound expressive range, making the characters believable and palpitating with life.
The opera on stage from 22 to 29 January is staged by the Fondazione Teatro Nuovo Giovanni da Udine with direction, sets and costumes by Ivan Stefanutti and lighting by Claudio Schmid.
