Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida is the most frequently performed opera in the Arena di Verona amphitheatre since 1913. Offered for 11 dates, from 18 June to 4 September 2022, this opera takes the audience back to the Ancient Egypt imagined by Franco Zeffirelli (and enriched by Anna Anni’s costumes). Together with Georges Bizet’s “Carmen“, Giuseppe Verdi’s “Nabucco” and “La Traviata” and Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot“, it constitutes one of the great operas scheduled for the 2022 Arena season.
Zeffirelli’s production of Aida was created especially for the Arena twenty years ago and this year it returns to the Veronese stage after many editions. Its characteristic features include the unmistakable golden light and the multicoloured precious fabrics that give Verdi’s imaginary Egypt a new glow of solemnity and exoticism.
The opera queen of the Arena will be conducted by Daniel Oren (18 and 23 June, 3 July, 5, 21 and 28 August, 4 September) and Marco Armiliato (8, 16, 24 and 28 July). On the immense stage will rise a parade of voices of absolute international importance, including Liudmyla Monastyrska, Anna Netrebko, Latonia Moore, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Murat Karahan, Fabio Sartori, Yusif Eyvazov, Amartuvshin Enkhbat and Ferruccio Furlanetto.
