The programme of the 99th Arena di Verona Opera Festival this year is completed with three special Gala evenings: the first one features Roberto Bolle on 20 July, while on 25 August it is the turn of “Plácido Domingo in Verdi Opera Night“.
On 12 August Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana returns to the Arena di Verona for a single extraordinary date. A memorable and spectacular concert with the participation of the full Arena Orchestra and Choir, two children’s choirs and soloists Lisette Oropesa, Filippo Mineccia and Mario Cassi.
The monumental symphonic and choral concert of Carmina Burana is a tribute to the composer, pianist and conductor Ezio Bosso, exactly three years after his concert in the Arena.
Opened and closed by the famous invocation “O Fortuna”, Carl Orff’s monumental scenic cantata consists of twenty-four compositions (in Latin, High German and ancient Provençal) taken from a collection of medieval poetic texts (carmina), handed down through the Codex Latinus Monacensis 4660 or Codex Buranus, hence the name “Carmina Burana”.
