The Museum of Natural History is housed in Palazzo Pompei and contains scientific material dating back almost five centuries, studied and catalogued by naturalists and experts in 16 rooms: it is estimated to contain over 2 million exhibits. The Palazzo houses the sections devoted to minerals and rocks, palaeontology and zoology, while the prehistory and botany sections have been transferred to the Palazzina Comando of the former Austrian Military Arsenal.

The jewel in the museum’s crown is the section dedicated to the fossils of Bolca: over 250 animal and 200 plant species from the Lessini mountains, a few kilometres from Verona, over 50 million years ago. An extremely rare specimen of a large marine tortoise from the Upper Cretaceous period (around 70 million years ago) is also preserved here in excellent condition.
