Il Parlatore Eterno” is a comic opera in one act by Amilcare Ponchielli to a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. The subject is taken from the French play “Le Parleur éternel” by Charles-Maurice Descombes of 1805, already known and performed in Italy.
The protagonist Lelio, the “eternal speaker” who gives the title of the show, sings from beginning to end, and the other characters, mute until the end in which they limit themselves to singing pertichini with the choir, are promptly silenced and silenced by the uncontrollable verve of the character. The work is therefore a unique piece in the history of opera that knows no comparison. After a first success that accompanied her until twenty years after the debut in 1873 at the Teatro Sociale di Lecco, the opera disappears from the repertoires of theaters soon. The first performance in modern times takes place in 2006 in the same theatre, while a further new performance takes place fifteen years later at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona.
“Il Parlatore Eterno” is represented together with “Il Tabarro“, an opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini, to a libretto by Giuseppe Adami from Didier Gold’s “La houppelande”.
This is the fifth title scheduled for the 2023 Opera Season at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona.
