The programme of the 99th Arena di Verona Opera Festival this year is completed with three special Gala evenings: the first one features Roberto Bolle on 20 July, while on 12 August it is the turn of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana”.
Plácido Domingo
will perform a gala in stage form with pages from Verdi’s most famous operas. Three years after the “Plácido Domingo 50-Arena Anniversary Night” event, the legendary Madrid singer will star in a new opera gala in scenic form dedicated to celebrating the genius of Giuseppe Verdi, whose “Don Carlo” (together with Puccini’s “Turandot”) marked Domingo’s arrival in the Arena (and in Italy) in the summer of 1969.
The “Plácido Domingo in Verdi Opera Night” presents three acts of Verdi’s operas in full stage form together with Maria José Siri, Fabio Sartori, Clémentine Margaine and, for the first time in the Arena, bass Ildar Abdrazakov. In addition to the rare “Macbeth” and “Don Carlo“, Domingo will make his debut in the role of Amonasro in the Triumph scene of “Aida“. Direction and scenes of the evening-event are signed by Stefano Trespidi and Ezio Antonelli, while the direction of the artistic complexes of the Arena is entrusted to Jordi Bernàcer.
