The 1st century B.C. open-air theatre was built before the Arena of Verona and is among the oldest buildings in the city. Built on the natural slope of the San Pietro hill on the left bank of the Adige River, it was completely covered by buildings and dwellings after the end of the Roman era. Brought back to the surface at the end of the 19th century, it has been hosting musical concerts and theatrical performances since 1948.
